Teams for the next 3 weeks of Summer Metros were picked over a few Love Streets at Karbach Brewery on Saturday after a very hot but entertaining Combine at Bendwood Park.  The mile run tested all the guys first up which was taken out by Rixy, closely followed by Jordan then DB.  The sprint was the highlight of the morning with Grovesy making a special appearance to defend his title but Hoddo was on fire, just edging out Rixy and Erik.

As the boys started wiltering in the hot sun, there was still some good skills demonstrated in the Handpass, Kicking and Goals tests, especially by some of the new Lonestars.  Comeback king, Q, took out the overall target kicking title ahead of DB and Fielder, however the knee did suffer a bit and not sure we will see the great 'Q man' out on the field this year.  Longest kick was won by Sam D and DB took out the Torp contest.  For full results click here.   

New captains for the Metro teams, Fielder and Zach, had tough decisions to make, having equal picks between the various skill levels of over 40 guys. Each were presented with the new Red and Blue Lonestar Metro jerseys and Fielder won the toss for first pick. In a controversial decision Fielder snubbed ex-AFL Ruckman Rixy in favor of his beloved Lonestar captain Matt Stevens.  Zach quickly snapped up the movie star boy Rix to start his Blue team list and picked strongly from there.

Looking forward to the next 3 weeks of Metro's Sunday evenings at 6pm at Bendwood Park starting this Sunday. Your captains will be in touch for attendance/availability.  If you are new or not in a team as yet, please come down and we will slot you in on the day.

We had an awesome turn-out at our Ausball intro session with over 60 participants tonight!!  It was a huge success so a massive thanks to Dan, Rixy and Nate for coaching such a big group and Sonni for her off-field work.  We are looking forward to a great Ausball competition over the next 3 weeks on Wednesday nights through July.  Don't forget to get your friends/partners down to join in as there is always room for more!!

We are gearing up for our second Metro season starting Sunday July 20, running for 3 weeks.  We are holding our mid-season Player Combine this Saturday morning (July 12) due to the world Cup final on Sunday. Let's see how our fitness and skills going - don't worry there will be plenty of fun stuff included!  We will be heading to our sponsor Karbach Brewery afterwards to enjoy the best beer this country has to offer and pick our captains and teams for the Summer Metro season.  Make sure you are there to be part of it (including friends and family)!
